Basilica Cistern in Istanbul with rows of ancient marble columns
Your first morning in Istanbul begins with a traditional Turkish breakfast at your hotel. You take your time, enjoy a bit of everything on the table, and ease into the day before heading out. Soon after, you’ll meet your private guide and step into the Old City for a walking tour of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks.
The day begins at the Hippodrome, where crowds once gathered during Byzantine times. Standing here, it’s easy to imagine the energy this place once held. Just next to it, you’ll step inside the Blue Mosque, where the light softens everything and the blue Iznik tiles quietly surround you. From here, it’s a short walk across to Hagia Sophia, built in 537 CE and once the largest building in the world, a place that feels completely different the moment you are inside.
Around midday, you’ll slow down with a lunch at the Pudding Shop, a place travelers have been coming to since the 1960s. After a short break, the day takes a quieter turn at the Basilica Cistern, where columns rise from the water and the Medusa heads remain hidden below. Later in the afternoon, you’ll find yourself at the Grand Bazaar, with its 61 covered streets and thousands of shops. It’s not just about shopping, it’s about walking through it, watching the artisans at work, and taking in the atmosphere.
By the end of the day, you return to your hotel, take some time to relax, and head out for dinner.
Cruising across the Bosphorus Strait on a private yacht
Your day begins with a relaxed breakfast at your hotel before meeting your private guide and heading out to continue exploring Istanbul. Today feels slightly different, as you begin to understand how the Ottoman Empire once lived and ruled, and how the city connects two continents in such a unique way.
You’ll start at the Topkapi Palace, the former residence of the Ottoman sultans. As you walk through its courtyards and elegant chambers, you begin to understand how the empire was shaped within these walls. The visit also includes the Harem, the private quarters of the royal family, filled with centuries of intriguing stories.
After some free time for lunch, you’ll enjoy a private cruise along the Bosphorus Strait, taking in views of both the European and Asian shores. Along the way, you pass landmarks like Dolmabahçe Palace, wooden waterfront homes, and the impressive Rumeli Fortress. It’s one of those moments where you really begin to understand the scale of the city and its unique position between two continents.
Later in the day, your journey takes you into the Beyoğlu district, where you walk along Istiklal Street, passing St. Antoine Church, the Galata Whirling Dervish Hall, and Neve Shalom Synagogue, with time to try some local flavors and street food along the way, before finishing at the Galata Tower.
After a full day, you return to your hotel to relax before heading out again for dinner.
The Fener and Balat Neighborhoods – UNESCO Heritage Sites
Today, you experience a different side of Istanbul, away from the usual routes and into neighborhoods where the city still feels local. This day reveals a more personal side of Istanbul that many visitors never experience.
Your morning begins in Fener and Balat, where you’ll walk through narrow streets lined with colorful houses, small cafés, and local shops. It’s a part of the city where life moves at its own pace. Along the way, you’ll stop at the unique Iron Church, a rare all-metal structure set along the Golden Horn, before continuing past the historic City Walls of Constantinople, once the powerful defenses of the city.
Next comes a uniquely modern experience as you descend into the Marmaray Tunnel for a short journey beneath the Bosphorus, crossing from Europe to Asia in just a few minutes. Once you arrive in Kadıköy, the atmosphere shifts right away. This lively district is known for its food culture, and your time here becomes a relaxed culinary walk through local markets and streets, with plenty of opportunities to try Turkish dishes and street food along the way.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll spend some time along the waterfront in Üsküdar, taking in views back toward the historic skyline. From here, you’ll drive across the Bosphorus Bridge to the European side, where your day comes to a close at the Spice Bazaar, filled with the aromas of teas, spices, and sweets.
By the end of the day, you’ll return to your hotel, carrying with you a deeper and more personal connection to Istanbul.
