On a full-day excursion departing from Fethiye, discover the “Cotton Castles” of Pamukkale and the well-preserved ruins of the Greek-Roman city of Hierapolis on a full-day excursion. Pamukkale’s clear waters and travertine terraces are a must-see, as is Hierapolis’ amphitheater.
You will be picked up from your Fethiye hotel and transferred to Pamukkale (formerly known as Hierapolis). A 210-kilometer journey that will take around 3 hours. There will be two breaks along the journey for coffee, tea, and breakfast.
We’ll proceed to Pamukkale after a lunch stop at a local restaurant to see Hierapolis, an ancient city built on thick limestone formations formed by mineral-rich waters running for millennia on a raised level plateau. The sacred city’s most significant sites are the Necropolis, the Theatre, and the Temple of Apollo.
You’ll have plenty of time to walk to the natural warm water terraces after seeing the Hierapolis Necropolis (cemetery), Roman Baths, Domitian’s Gate, the ancient city’s main street, and the Byzantium Gate. The natural warm water terraces are formed by running warm water rich in calcium and have temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius all year. Take advantage of the optional free time to swim in Cleopatra’s Pool before returning to your hotel.
At the conclusion of your day of sightseeing, you will return back to Fethiye.
